Autumn glamping at Orchard Pods

Orchard-pods-fire-pitAutumn glamping at Orchard Pods

At this time of year an escape to nature restores the soul. Each of our pods is a private sanctuary, tucked into the cherry trees, they provide a tranquil setting.

Autumn is a lovely time to stay, fingers crossed for lingering warm weather, the day light is hanging on, the leaves are changing and starting to fall, the apples and pears are ready for scrumping (if you get to them before the sheep!).

The woods are heady with the scent of ivy blossom, fir needles, the earthy smell of wet leaves and fallen fruit. It’s a fantastic time to get back to nature, walking and exploring new paths, collecting chestnuts to cook on the fire or just standing back and admiring our views of the North Downs.

We are lucky enough to be on the path of many migrating birds at this time of year – you will see flocks of geese and ducks heading south for winter sunshine, and we welcome the arrival of the finches, redwings and fieldfares who have left the colder Northern and Easter European winters to join our blackbirds, blue tits, great tits, long-tailed tits, goldfinches, robins, wrens, the nightingale and resident little owl.

You can admire the change of season from the comfort of your cosy pod, inside the underfloor heating, a double bed made ready to fall into and ensuite facilities, mean you will be warm and comfortable. The indoor table, chairs, sofa and compact kitchen, give you all the necesities, and our covered, decked porches have seats so you can enjoy the outdoors in all weathers.

Clear skies, star-gazing and stunning sunsets feel extra special at this time of year.

The private fire pit, BBQ and your outside table and chairs allow you to enjoy the great outdoors from the privacy of your own pod. At Orchard Pods you only have to share your space with the people you invite – however we can’t guarantee gate-crashing squirrels, foxes or deer won’t appear, and our guinea fowl have been know to cruise past during the day.

This time of year is the best for winding down after a busy summer. Allow yourself to indulge in good book by the fire, a long walk with your dogs, enjoy fabulous food and drink either in our local pub, The King’s Arms a 10 minute stroll away from the orchard through the woods, or from the comfort of your own pod. The hob, microwave and range of kitchen equipment supplied enable to prepare your favourite home-cooked meals, perhaps roast marshmallows on your open fire, or curl up with a hot chocolate.

We are lucky to have a variety of eating and drinking options, there are pubs, restaurants and cafes available for those wanting to walk further (3-5 miles) and then further still are market towns, the historic cities of Canterbury and Rochester, our beautiful Kent coastline and a huge selection of castles, stately homes, parks and places to walk, explore and build up an appetite.

A visit to Offham Spadework Garden Centre, café, farm shop and gift shed is always rewarding, they have their annual PYO Pumpkin Garden open until the end of October. This fantastic charity provides care, support, and meaningful opportunities for adults with learning and other disabilities, as well as people experiencing problems with their mental health and those living with dementia.

The Offham steam down rally takes place on Sunday 20th October, so as well as local steam engines and tractors, this event is a classic car and bike meet and the King’s Arms has a BBQ and beer festival. Watch last years highlights here

Dogs are welcome, we have lots of walking from the orchard and the Kings Arms are so dog friendly thy have their own dog menu!!

And if you need any more reasons to come and stay, Rob and Becky guarantee a warm welcome, we love to be able to share our family farm with you.
